Mount Gay 1703 Master Select
Mount Gay · Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd.
A masterclass in Bajan blending — refined, contemplative, and built for slow sipping. The 1703 honors Mount Gay's deep heritage while showing that age and patience still define rum's most elegant edges.
Nose
Layered aromas of toasted oak, candied orange peel, baked banana, and warm baking spice, with undercurrents of dark honey, leather, and vanilla pod.
Palate
Silky and full-bodied, opening with toffee, dried apricot, and caramelized brown sugar before unfurling into clove, cinnamon, roasted almond, and a whisper of cigar wrapper. Coral-filtered Bajan water gives it a remarkable smoothness.
Finish
Long and contemplative, with lingering oak tannins, candied ginger, dark chocolate, and a final breath of toasted coconut.

Food Pairing
Aged Gouda with quince paste, or a flourless dark chocolate torte with candied orange.
Named for the year of Mount Gay's earliest recorded deed — the oldest documented rum distillery in the world — the 1703 Master Select is hand-blended by Master Blender Trudiann Branker from rare reserve stocks aged between 10 and 30 years in American oak.

Bushmills Red Bush Irish Whiskey
Bushmills
Red Bush is Bushmills' deliberate lean into bourbon barrel maturation, and it works as a gateway whiskey for those crossing over from American spirits. It won't challenge seasoned Irish whiskey drinkers, but it delivers honest craft at a price that makes everyday drinking guilt-free. A solid foundation pour.

Herradura Ultra Añejo Cristalino Tequila
Herradura
Cristalino tequilas polarize purists, but Herradura's version makes a compelling case for the category. The añejo base provides genuine depth — cooked agave and oak influence survive the charcoal filtration — while the clarity and smoothness open doors for sipping occasions where a heavy reposado might feel out of place. Style with substance.

Salcombe Gin Start Point London Dry Gin
Salcombe Distilling Co.
Salcombe Start Point is a lesson in balance — coastal-inspired without resorting to novelty botanicals, and citrus-forward without losing its London Dry identity. The Devon distillery's obsessive attention to water quality and distillation timing shows in the seamless integration of each botanical. A gin that rewards both neat sipping and a well-made G&T.

Elijah Craig 1789 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Elijah Craig
Heaven Hill's flagship small batch remains a benchmark for what well-made bourbon at an accessible price should taste like. It delivers complexity beyond its price point, with barrel char and grain in honest balance. A bottle that earns its shelf space through consistency rather than hype.

Plantation Fiji Islands 2017 Single Cask
Plantation
This Fiji single cask bottling from Plantation delivers the transparency that the series is designed to showcase—a specific distillery, a specific year, a single cask's personality on display. The double aging in Fiji and then in Ferrand cognac casks in France adds structural complexity while preserving the distillery's characteristically lush tropical profile.

Mount Gay Black Barrel
Mount Gay
An underappreciated workhorse that punches well above its price — pot-still character and aggressive cask charring give it backbone where many entry-level aged rums go soft.

Vulcão Grogue de Cabo Verde
Vulcão
A rugged, terroir-driven cane spirit that rewards adventurous drinkers. Less polished than agricole, more elemental — and all the better for it.

Foursquare Exceptional Cask Selection Mark XXIII 'Covenant'
Foursquare
Richard Seale continues to define what serious Barbadian rum can be. This 14-year blend of pot and column still distillates shows the depth and nuance that earned Foursquare its reputation. At cask strength, it's intense but never harsh — a rum that commands your full attention and gives back generously.
