André Ostertag has been a biodynamic pioneer in Alsace for decades, and Fronholz — his lieu-dit vineyard on calcareous sandstone — produces Pinot Gris of remarkable poise. The 2023 vintage captures the variety's richness without tipping into heaviness, with a mineral core that gives the wine genuine gravity.
Nose
Ripe melon and honeyed stone fruit open the nose, with a subtle floral rose note and a hint of almond underneath. A smoky mineral quality from the limestone-sandstone terroir adds a serious counterpoint to the fruit.
Palate
Medium-bodied with a textured, almost waxy mouthfeel. Citrus and green apple acidity keep the palate fresh despite the wine's richness. Honey and melon recur alongside a lightly toasted note. The mineral backbone provides tension and length.
Finish
Medium-long with citrus freshness, lingering honey, and a clean mineral close. Balanced and precise.
