Chamucos Añejo

Chamucos · NOM 1459 (Tequila Quiote)

80 proof2-YearJalisco, Mexico
Chamucos flies under the radar in a crowded añejo market, but this expression delivers serious complexity for its price. The two years in oak add structure without bulldozing the agave. A tequila that rewards sipping neat — gravity in every drop.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich cooked agave opens the nose with butterscotch and toasted oak behind it. Vanilla bean and a dark chocolate note develop as the glass opens. Faint leather and a citrus edge round out the aroma profile.

Palate

Medium-to-full body with a satiny mouthfeel. Caramel and oak drive the mid-palate, with a cinnamon spice kick and a mineral earthiness underneath. The agave sweetness is well-integrated, never sugary.

Finish

Long and warming with oak, pepper, and a trailing butterscotch sweetness. Dry and satisfying.

Cocktail Suggestion

Añejo Old Fashioned — 2 oz Chamucos Añejo · 0.25 oz agave nectar · 2 dashes Angostura bitters · 1 dash orange bitters · Stir over ice, strain over large cube, garnish with orange twist.

Food Pairing

Slow-braised chicken thighs in a complex Oaxacan mole negro — the chocolate, chili, and spice in the sauce echo the tequila's dark cocoa, cinnamon, and oak character.

The Story

Produced at NOM 1459 in the highlands of Jalisco, Chamucos — meaning 'little devils' — is a small-batch label that uses traditional brick ovens and tahona crushing for a portion of its production.
