Talisker Distillers Edition 2023
Talisker · Talisker Distillery
The Distillers Edition takes Talisker's coastal intensity and routes it through sherry cask maturation, creating a dialogue between smoke and sweetness that neither wins. It's a demonstration of how finishing can complement rather than mask a distillery's character.
Kit Aromas
Nose
Maritime peat and cracked black pepper open immediately, but the Amoroso sherry finish adds layers of dried fig and dark chocolate. Underneath there's a honeyed sweetness and a wisp of woodsmoke that keeps the nose turning.
Palate
The entry is smoky and briny, then the sherry cask influence widens the mid-palate with stewed stone fruit and clove spice. There's a malty backbone and a building pepperiness that anchors the sweetness without letting it dominate.
Finish
Long, with lingering smoke, dried fruit, and a saline minerality that calls you back to the coast.

Food Pairing
The smoky char of the lamb meets the whisky's peat, while the herb crust echoes the dried fruit sweetness and the sea salt amplifies Talisker's signature brine.
Distilled on the remote shores of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye and finished in ex-Amoroso sherry casks, Talisker's Distillers Edition is the annual showcase of the distillery's maritime soul refined by Iberian wood.

Ableforth's Bathtub Gin Navy Strength
Ableforth's
The compound method — cold-infusing botanicals rather than vapor-distilling them — gives this gin a texture and depth that column-distilled gins rarely achieve. At navy strength, the botanical payload is amplified but not exaggerated. It punches above its price point with confidence.

Teeling Brabazon Bottling Series 04 Muscat Casks
Teeling
The Brabazon Series is Teeling's exploration of wine cask finishing, and this Muscat expression is the most harmonious yet. The dessert wine casks could easily overwhelm, but the distillery's spirit is robust enough to absorb the influence and come out more complex for it. A rewarding pour for anyone who thinks Irish whiskey can't do bold.

Hampden Estate HLCF 2016 Single Vintage
Hampden Estate
HLCF is Hampden's medium-ester mark, and at seven years it hits a sweet spot where the distillery's funk is fully developed but the cask has had enough time to integrate. This is Jamaican rum at its most unapologetically expressive — not for the faint of heart, but essential for anyone who wants to understand what pot-still rum can achieve.

Rare Breed Bourbon Barrel Proof
Wild Turkey
This is barrel proof bourbon that doesn't require an apology or a chaser. The blending of multiple age stocks by Eddie Russell creates a complexity that single-barrel releases often reach for and miss. An anchor bottle for any serious bourbon shelf.

Talisker Storm Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Talisker
Storm captures Talisker's elemental Skye character in a bottling that's more aggressive than the 10 Year Old without being unwieldy. It's built for weather — the kind of whisky that makes sense when the wind is up and the rain is sideways. Serious coastal character at a fair price.

Tomatin 18 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Tomatin
Tomatin 18 is one of the Highlands' most underrated age-statement malts. The combination of first-fill oloroso sherry casks and refill bourbon barrels creates a layered, elegant whisky that never shouts. It rewards careful attention with steady, deepening complexity.

Ardmore 12 Year Old Port Wood Finish Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Ardmore
Ardmore often goes overlooked among Highland malts, but this 12-year-old demonstrates why peat works differently north of the Highland Line. The port wood finishing adds depth without obscuring the distillery's signature lightly peated character. At 46% and non-chill-filtered, it has the weight and texture to reward patient sipping.

Kilchoman Sanaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Kilchoman
Sanaig is one of Islay's best-kept affordable secrets. The marriage of sherry cask richness with Kilchoman's signature peat creates a whisky that feels more expensive than it is. A textbook example of balance under pressure.
