Kilkerran 8 Year Old Cask Strength Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Kilkerran · Glengyle Distillery

115.6 proof8 YearCampbeltown, Scotland
Kilkerran's cask strength releases remain among the best values in single malt Scotch. This 8-year-old demonstrates that Campbeltown's revivalist distillery has found its voice — muscular and maritime without the heavy peat that dominates the conversation. It shows how heat and strength can reveal rather than mask youth.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Warm malt and salted butter open the nose, followed by green cut grass and a briny, almost maritime quality. There's honey drizzled over toasted oats and a whisper of vanilla from bourbon cask maturation. A faint peaty note hides beneath the cereal character.

Palate

Oily and assertive, the palate delivers clove spice and earthy minerality alongside a core of barley sweetness. Lemon peel and peach emerge at cask strength, with a coconut undertone that rounds the edges. The spirit carries its youth openly, with a clean, focused intensity.

Finish

Medium-long with lingering malt, white pepper, and a maritime smokiness that echoes back to the nose. Woody tannins provide structure without bitterness.

The Story

Glengyle Distillery was resurrected in 2004 by Springbank's Mitchell family, ending a silence of nearly eighty years and restoring Campbeltown's third active distillery on the rain-battered Kintyre peninsula.
