Habitation Velier Long Pond TECA 2007

Habitation Velier · Long Pond Distillery

124.6 proof10 Year OldTrelawny, Jamaica
A benchmark for the extreme end of Jamaican funk — not a beginner's rum, but for those attuned to high-ester Jamaicans, TECA is a searing, unforgettable statement. Heat, fermentation, and time made visceral.

Tasting Notes

Nose

An immediate wave of overripe banana, pineapple skin, and green olive brine gives way to acetone, warm asphalt, and burnt rubber. Beneath the volatile top layer, there's baked plantain, allspice, and a whisper of leather and cocoa nib.

Palate

Enormous and oily. Rotting tropical fruit — mango, guava, jackfruit — collides with black olive tapenade, diesel, and smoked meat. Muscovado sugar and a bitter cacao edge anchor the mid-palate as the esters climb into varnish and lacquered wood.

Finish

Impossibly long, with fermented fruit, cured tobacco leaf, and a lingering petrol-and-pineapple echo that refuses to fade. Salted licorice and old oak close it out.

Cocktail Suggestion

Ember & Ash — 0.75 oz Long Pond TECA 2007, 1.25 oz aged agricole, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz demerara syrup, 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Shake with ice, strain into a chilled coupe, garnish with a flamed orange peel.

Food Pairing

Jerk pork belly with charred pineapple and a smear of scotch bonnet jam — smoke, sugar, and heat matched to the rum's own volcanic character.

The Story

Distilled in 2007 at Long Pond's storied Trelawny stills under the TECA marque — one of the highest-ester expressions ever produced in Jamaica — and bottled by Luca Gargano's Habitation Velier after a decade of split tropical and continental aging.
