Domaine Rimbert

Saint-Chinian, Languedoc, France
Jean-Marie Rimbert's commitment to low-intervention winemaking on schist soils produces reds that punch well above their price bracket. It's a wine that rewards both casual drinking and thoughtful attention — a genuine Languedoc benchmark.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Crushed blackcurrant and wild cherry burst forward, joined by dried herbs, cracked pepper, and a distinct stony minerality. There's a faint garrigue note — rosemary and thyme — that anchors the fruit.

Palate

Medium-full bodied with bright acidity. Dark berry fruit is layered with cedar and a touch of toasted oak. The schist terroir shows in a chalky, mineral mid-palate that gives the wine tension and grip without heaviness.

Finish

Medium-long with fine-grained tannins, lingering blackcurrant, and a dry herbal close.

Domaine Roulot Monthelie Rouge 2021

Domaine Roulot Monthelie Rouge 2021

Domaine Roulot

Jean-Marc Roulot is rightly famous for his whites, but this Monthelie Rouge demonstrates his sensitivity to Pinot Noir as well. The 2021 vintage gives bright fruit and good acidity, and Roulot's light hand in the cellar allows the terroir to speak. A Burgundy red that offers genuine transparency of place at a fraction of premier cru pricing.

Château Peyrassol Commanderie de Peyrassol Rouge Côtes de Provence 2021

Château Peyrassol

Provence is better known for rosé, which makes this red from a 13th-century Templar estate all the more compelling. The Syrah-Cabernet blend captures the warmth of the Provençal sun without excess, delivering a red that is structured enough to pair with grilled meats but fresh enough for a summer evening. Excellent value.

Cantine Ferrandes Ferrandes Rosso Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG 2021

Planeta

Planeta's Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a masterclass in Sicilian restraint. The Nero d'Avola and Frappato blend achieves a balance between richness and freshness that makes it endlessly drinkable. A serious wine that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Clos de la Roilette Fleurie 2022

Clos de la Roilette

Alain Coudert's Clos de la Roilette is one of Beaujolais's most consistent and compelling producers, and the 2022 vintage delivers the quintessence of Fleurie — it's the cru that earned its name from flowers. This is Gamay without pretense, a wine that demands nothing but a glass and a moment. Serve it slightly cool.
