Château Pichon Baron Grand Cru Classé Pauillac 2018

Château Pichon Baron

Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
The 2018 vintage was tailor-made for Pauillac, and Pichon Baron capitalized fully. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominance shows in the structure and dark fruit intensity, but what distinguishes this bottle is its patience — it's built to evolve over two decades, yet already shows remarkable composure. A wine that asks you to wait and rewards those who do.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Concentrated blackcurrant and violet emerge first, followed by cedar and graphite. A subtle mint note adds freshness, and toasted oak spice develops with air.

Palate

Dense and structured, with layers of blackcurrant and cherry wrapped in firm, fine-grained tannins. Vanilla and cedar from the oak aging are well-integrated, and a pronounced minerality gives the mid-palate a seriousness that demands attention.

Finish

Exceptionally long, with cedar, blackcurrant, and a persistent violet note that lifts the finish above its weight.

The Story

Overseen by estate director Christian Seely and winemaker Jean-René Matignon, Château Pichon Baron sits directly across the road from Château Latour in the heart of Pauillac, producing deeply structured wines from vines averaging over 35 years old on a terroir of deep gravel over clay.

Château Peyrassol Commanderie de Peyrassol Rouge Côtes de Provence 2021

Château Peyrassol

Provence is better known for rosé, which makes this red from a 13th-century Templar estate all the more compelling. The Syrah-Cabernet blend captures the warmth of the Provençal sun without excess, delivering a red that is structured enough to pair with grilled meats but fresh enough for a summer evening. Excellent value.

Planeta

Planeta's Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a masterclass in Sicilian restraint. The Nero d'Avola and Frappato blend achieves a balance between richness and freshness that makes it endlessly drinkable. A serious wine that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Clos de la Roilette Fleurie 2022

Clos de la Roilette

Alain Coudert's Clos de la Roilette is one of Beaujolais's most consistent and compelling producers, and the 2022 vintage delivers the quintessence of Fleurie — it's the cru that earned its name from flowers. This is Gamay without pretense, a wine that demands nothing but a glass and a moment. Serve it slightly cool.

Domaine Weinbach Pinot Noir Réserve 2022

Domaine Weinbach

Alsatian Pinot Noir rarely gets its due, overshadowed by the region's legendary whites. Domaine Weinbach's Réserve bottling makes a compelling case for reconsidering. It trades Burgundian weight for alpine precision, delivering a red that is at once serious and refreshing — a natural pairing for a summer holiday table.
