Barton 1792 Aged 12 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

1792 · Barton 1792 Distillery

96.6 proof12 YearBardstown, Kentucky, USA
Twelve years in Bardstown's climate creates a bourbon of real depth without barrel-heavy excess. The oak influence is measured and deliberate, complementing rather than drowning the grain character. A textbook example of what extended aging in Kentucky can accomplish when the distillate has the backbone for it.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich caramel and toasted oak arrive first, followed by dried cherry and a subtle floral note. Underneath, there's a warm current of leather and cocoa that deepens with time in the glass.

Palate

Full-bodied entry with butterscotch and charred oak, then a mid-palate wave of baking spice and dark fruit. The twelve years show themselves in the integrated tannin structure — firm but never harsh.

Finish

Long and warming, with lingering tobacco, vanilla, and a faint echo of maple sweetness.

Cocktail Suggestion

Twelve Seasons Old Fashioned — 2 oz 1792 Aged 12 Year · 1 bar spoon demerara syrup · 2 dashes Angostura bitters · 1 dash orange bitters · Stir over a large ice cube, express an orange peel over the surface.

Food Pairing

The charred oak and tobacco in the bourbon mirror the smoke ring on slow-cooked brisket, while the coffee rub's bitterness draws out the bourbon's dark chocolate undertones.

The Story

Distilled at the historic Barton 1792 facility in Bardstown — one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in Kentucky — this twelve-year expression was quietly released as a limited allocation to showcase the site's capacity for long-aged bourbon.

Barrell Craft Spirits

Barrell's Seagrass is a master class in multi-cask finishing done with restraint. The three cask influences don't compete — they collaborate, each contributing a distinct frequency to the final chord. At cask strength, it rewards patient sipping and a splash of water.

Midleton Dair Ghaelach Bluebell Forest Tree No. 6

Midleton

The Dair Ghaelach series represents Midleton's most ambitious exploration of terroir in Irish whiskey. The Bluebell Forest edition demonstrates how native Irish oak — sessile oak harvested from a single estate — can completely reshape a mature pot still whiskey. This is Irish whiskey pushing its own boundaries.

Talisker 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Talisker

This is Talisker at its most contemplative. Thirty years on Skye has softened the distillery's volcanic character into something almost meditative, but the maritime soul remains. It's the cinder and the dew made literal — smoke meeting sea mist across decades of patient aging.

Hernö High Coast Terroir Gin 2023 Edition

Hernö

Hernö has built its reputation on textbook juniper-forward gins, and this terroir-focused edition is no exception. The Swedish botanicals give it a distinctly Nordic character — clean, herbal, and slightly wild — while the distillation technique ensures every ingredient reads clearly on the palate. A gin for gin lovers.
